Director Tarun Mansukhani, who helmed Housefull 5, has shed light on one of the film’s most intriguing elements — the presence of two alternate endings. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker shared how this unusual creative decision took root decades ago in the mind of writer Sajid Nadiadwala.

Tarun said, “I think Sajid had this idea about thirty years ago, right?” Tarun revealed. “He sat down with it — what if I could go to a film and my friends went in one screen and I went in another screen, and we both came out and we had conflicting things to say because somebody said the murderer is someone and I said the murderer is someone else? It would be such a great experience to have that.”

According to Mansukhani, Sajid held on to the concept for three decades, never finding the right story to bring it to life until Housefull 5 came along.

“When he first narrated it to me, I was most excited,” Tarun added. “Because immediately — I mean, for me, I get to make a film which is going to be the first of its kind, right? It’s that much more exciting for me as a filmmaker.”

Blending the Housefull franchise’s trademark comedy with a whodunit twist was no easy feat, Mansukhani admitted. “If you say what attracted me to Housefull, it was the fact that it’s a comedy film and there’s a murder mystery to it. There are two completely different genres that I have to meld together and make sure it comes across as a singular film. That was a challenge and an exciting part of it. It just knocked it out. I was like work doesn’t work, but the experience needs to happen. We need to do more of an experiment to see how an audience reacts to it. Give them a different kind of experience other than just coming and watching.”
