Puneet Issar recalls Salman Khan’s state during Garv: “Salim sahab told me to tell Salman to stay busy at work”

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Puneet Issar reflected on directing Salman Khan in the 2004 film Garv: Pride and Honour, during the period when the actor was entangled in the high-profile 2002 hit-and-run case. Despite the ongoing legal battle and constant media attention, Salman remained committed to his work, staying focused on the film without letting the external pressure interfere with his performance.

Reflecting on Salman’s state of mind during that period, Puneet shared that while the actor was deeply troubled, it was his family who encouraged him to stay focused on his work. He also recalled a conversation he had with Salman’s father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan.

Puneet recounted that Salman was understandably disturbed during that time. He shared, “Obviously, the man (Salman) was disturbed. Ultimately, his family members decided that he should start work and concentrate on it. Salim sahab maintained that during that phase of Salman’s life, he should just work. Salim sahab told me to tell Salman to stay busy at work, and this was a collective decision taken by his family. It was the right decision and that’s what he did.”

Puneet also recalled that despite facing intense public scrutiny and speculation, Salman remained committed to his work. He shared, “His morale was very good on set. He is a professional. He has a comfort zone, he works in that, he would come work out and shoot.”

In 2002, Salman Khan was accused of running over pavement dwellers in Bandra, leading to one death and charges of culpable homicide. Allegations included driving under the influence. In 2015, the Bombay High Court acquitted him, citing lack of evidence to prove he was intoxicated or driving the vehicle.
